A large-scale solar investment could soon materialize in the eastern part of the Republic of Srpska (RS) after local company SolarWin formally submitted a request for a concession to develop a solar power plant in the municipality of Gacko. The proposed project carries an estimated investment value of around €85 million, positioning it among the most significant renewable initiatives in the area.
Following SolarWin’s initiative, the RS Ministry of Energy and Mining issued a public call in mid-December inviting bids for the concession to build and operate the planned Gacko solar facility. This step represents the first formal phase in selecting a developer for one of the largest solar projects proposed in eastern RS.
According to data published by the RS Concessions Commission, the project foresees a solar power plant with an installed capacity of 200 MW. Expected annual electricity generation is estimated at around 260 GWh, with all produced power intended for sale on the open electricity market. Construction is planned on approximately 203.7 hectares of state-owned land.
The concession may be awarded for a period of up to 50 years from the date of signing the concession agreement. Under the tender conditions, the company that submitted the original initiative is entitled to a 10% evaluation bonus, applied across technical, economic, and financial criteria, giving it a competitive advantage in the bidding process.
