A large-scale solar project is moving forward in central Romania after Vienna Energy Forta Naturala, a renewables company backed by Austria’s Wien Energie Group, committed to a major construction contract in Alba county.
The company signed an engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) agreement valued at around €25 million to deliver a 45 MW solar power plant in the commune of Sancel. The contractor responsible for the project has not been publicly disclosed.
Financing for the development is expected to come from European Union sources, as the investment proposal has been submitted under the EU’s Modernization Fund, according to legal adviser Vlasceanu & Partners, which supported the transaction.
The Sancel solar project is part of Vienna Energy Forta Naturala’s broader expansion plan in Romania, which includes a diversified portfolio of renewable assets. Beyond solar generation, the strategy also envisions the deployment of battery energy storage systems to improve grid flexibility.
Founded in 2008, the Romanian developer specializes in greenfield renewable projects, guiding them from early-stage planning to full integration into the energy system. As a member of the Wien Energie Group, the company aims to be a long-term contributor to Romania’s clean energy transition.
