Electricity trading on Albania’s ALPEX day-ahead market increased sharply in August, reaching 244.5 GWh. The volume was up 8% from July and 39.6% compared with the same month a year earlier. Trading for the Albanian bidding zone totalled 166.2 GWh, with an average market-clearing price of €146.88/MWh.
The value of transactions reached about €67.4 million, representing a 73.5% year-on-year increase. This growth outpaced the rise in physical volumes, while wholesale electricity prices remained elevated.
Role of organised exchange trading
The reported figures point to a growing contribution from organised exchange trading in Albania. They also coincide with developments in liquidity and regional market integration.
