Croatia’s electricity exchange CROPEX traded 1,454,482 MWh in October 2026, 6.7% more than in September, while its average day-ahead baseload price climbed 31.2% to €226.66/MWh. Aggregate turnover was 0.3% higher than in October 2025, a modest year-on-year change compared with the month-on-month movement in prices. Wholesale price risk can affect purchasing costs, hedging requirements and generation revenues even when traded demand is relatively stable.
Day-ahead trading accounted for 957,833 MWh, while the intraday market handled 496,649 MWh. Intraday transactions represented about 34% of all energy traded on CROPEX. Average daily day-ahead turnover was 30,897.8 MWh. Intraday trading provides within-day adjustments alongside conventional day-ahead procurement and sales.
The average day-ahead baseload price reached €226.66/MWh, up 31.2% from September. The reported average peak price was €220.46/MWh, an increase of 53.2%, while the average intraday price rose 31.1% to €229.98/MWh.
CROPEX has operated a day-ahead market since March 2016 and began operating its intraday market in April 2017. Its day-ahead market was coupled through the Croatian-Slovenian border in June 2018, linking domestic price formation more closely to interconnected European trading conditions. The October figures also underline the commercial relevance of hourly procurement, cross-border trading access and short-term forecasting as volatility passes through the regional electricity market.
