Albania: ALPEX day-ahead power trading jumps nearly 71% year-on-year in December

The Albanian electricity exchange ALPEX reported that total electricity traded on its day-ahead market reached 168.6 GWh in December 2025, representing a 1% decline compared with the previous month, but a sharp 70.8% increase year-on-year.

Of the total traded volume, 110.2 GWh was cleared for the Kosovo bidding zone and 99.4 GWh for the Albania bidding zone. The average market clearing price stood at 123.23 euros/MWh for Albania and 124.35 euros/MWh for Kosovo.

The total value of transactions on ALPEX in December amounted to approximately 41.8 million euros, marking a strong 39.8% rise compared with December 2024.

ALPEX was established in October 2020 by the Albanian transmission system operator OST together with its Kosovo counterpart KOSTT, and it conducted its first Albanian auction in April 2023. The exchange currently counts 36 members active across the Albania and Kosovo bidding zones.
