Albania: Voltalia’s Karavasta solar power plant boosts output as new 100 MW project near Durres advances

Voltalia’s 140 MW Karavasta solar power plant in southwestern Albania generated 223 GWh of electricity during the first nine months of 2025, slightly exceeding the 218 GWh produced in the same period last year.

The Karavasta facility, one of the largest solar projects in Albania, began feeding power into the national grid in December 2023. Under a 15-year power purchase agreement, roughly half of its annual production is supplied to the national electricity distributor OSHEE, while the remaining portion is sold to private consumers through long-term bilateral contracts.

The French renewable energy company continues to expand its presence in Albania’s clean energy sector. In September, the national Energy Regulatory Authority (ERE) initiated the licensing process for Voltalia’s next major project — a 100 MW solar power plant planned near Durres on the Adriatic coast.

Once completed, the new facility will further increase Voltalia’s contribution to Albania’s renewable energy development and help strengthen the country’s transition toward sustainable electricity generation.
