The Government of the Republic of Srpska (RS) is expected to make a final decision next week on transferring coal mining concession rights from Comsar Energy RS to RiTE Ugljevik, announced Energy and Mining Minister Petar Djokic.
Minister Djokic stated that the cabinet has now been fully briefed on the steps already taken to facilitate the transfer of exploitation rights. A formal request has been submitted, and the remaining documentation is expected to be harmonized within the next seven days, paving the way for the Government to approve the transfer at its upcoming session.
He acknowledged that the process has stretched over several months, but emphasized that the matter is anticipated to be conclusively resolved at the next Government meeting. Once adopted, the decision would formally move the coal exploitation contract from Comsar Energy RS to RiTE Ugljevik.
The Minister argued that the transfer would significantly improve coal production conditions for RiTE Ugljevik. He noted that the Ugljevik-Istok2 field has a much more favorable exploitation coefficient compared to other mining sites, allowing for more efficient operations, higher output, and better coal quality. Internal company assessments indicate that access to this deposit would enable stabilized production and more effective organization of mining activities than under current conditions.
If the Government approves the transfer of exploitation rights as announced, the decision will come exactly one year after similar assurances were publicly made. Meanwhile, RiTE Ugljevik has once again been forced offline due to insufficient coal supplies, highlighting the urgency of resolving the concession issue.
