Plans for a large-scale solar power plant near Nikšić have reached a major regulatory milestone, as project documentation has entered the environmental approval process. The Environmental Protection Agency confirmed that an environmental impact assessment has been formally submitted for the Tupan solar power plant.
The proposed facility is designed with a capacity of 90 MW and would be located near the village of Tupan. According to project materials, the plant would cover over 1.56 million square meters and feature more than 129,000 photovoltaic modules. Just over half of the designated area would be occupied by the solar panels, with the remainder allocated for access roads, infrastructure, and buffer zones.
The project is being developed by S2P Tupan, a local company established in mid-2023 to provide engineering services and technical consulting. Ownership is divided between a private investor holding a majority stake and a Swiss energy firm, which together are backing the planned solar investment.
If approved, the Tupan plant would provide a substantial new source of renewable electricity for Montenegro and reinforce Nikšić’s role in the country’s ongoing energy transition.
