Electricity traded on North Macedonia’s MEMO day-ahead exchange increased 74% year on year to 179.2 GWh in September. The rise coincided with higher September prices, reflecting greater activity on the organised market. Volumes still fell 10.3% compared with August.
The average clearing price climbed 10% month on month to €150.49/MWh. Average daily trading reached approximately 5,973 MWh. The reported peak-period average was €121.40/MWh, below the overall monthly average.
September trading levels and price differences
The exchange was launched in May 2023 and is handling substantially more electricity than a year earlier. In September of the previous year, trading totalled approximately 102.9 GWh. Higher annual turnover indicates a deeper market, while the monthly decline points to variability in activity.
For participants, September combined higher trading volumes than a year earlier with a higher average procurement price than in August. The difference between peak-period and overall prices also shows that monthly baseload averages alone cannot fully describe exposure. The timing of consumption and production remains material to realised costs and returns.
