Portuguese renewable energy company Hyperion Renewables has secured a €16.3 million loan from Germany’s ProCredit Holding to finance the construction of a 38 MW solar power plant in the town of Săliște, Sibiu County, Romania.
Construction of the facility is already underway, marking Hyperion’s first operational project in the Romanian market. The plant is among the first in Romania to obtain long-term debt financing through an offtake structure backed by a Contract for Difference (CfD), setting a new benchmark for renewable energy project bankability in the country.
Earlier this year, Dutch renewable energy firm Photon Energy signed an agreement with Hyperion Renewables to provide engineering and construction services for the Săliște project. Originally planned with a 34 MW capacity, the project was later expanded to 38 MW following joint optimization by the two partners.
Hyperion Renewables has developed over 1 GW of solar capacity worldwide, with more than 400 MW already connected to the grid. Since entering Romania in 2021, the company has established a 5 GW development pipeline spanning the Iberian Peninsula and Romania, including solar, wind, energy storage, and green hydrogen projects.
