Serbia: NIS confirms stable fuel supply in Serbia amid US license delay and JANAF suspension

Serbian oil company NIS has announced that it has not yet received a Special License from the US Treasury Department, which would allow its operations to continue without restrictions. Despite this, the company confirmed that it holds sufficient crude oil reserves for refining and is maintaining uninterrupted deliveries of all fuel types to its petrol stations across the country.

Since being added to the Specially Designated Nationals (SDN) List in January, NIS has been adapting its operations to the new conditions. The company emphasized that its main priorities remain securing stable supplies for the Serbian market and protecting the jobs and social security of its employees.

If international bank cards such as MasterCard or Visa eventually stop being accepted at NIS stations, consumers will still be able to pay using the Serbian Dina card, cash, or the IPS instant transfer system. In wholesale trade, payments will continue to be settled in dinars, ensuring that NIS meets all contractual obligations with corporate clients and major consumers. Business cards used by corporate customers are functioning without disruptions.

NIS Retail Director Bojana Radojević stated that the company is fully prepared for sanctions and highlighted that fuel stations are supplied at optimal levels. She confirmed that sufficient petroleum reserves and stable crude oil stocks are in place to support continued production. Radojević added that there is no need for panic buying or long queues, as there are no restrictions on fuel quantities. Sales are being carried out under normal conditions, and supply is expected to remain stable in the coming period.

Meanwhile, Croatian pipeline operator JANAF announced that it will suspend cooperation with NIS, citing the Serbian company’s failure to obtain the license required to continue the crude oil transport agreement. As a result, the execution of the agreed activities will cease from 8 October.
