Slovenia: Electricity generation rises slightly in December 2025 amid mixed energy supply trends

According to data from the Statistical Office of the Republic of Slovenia, the country’s net electricity generation in December 2025 increased by 1% compared to the same month last year. Total net generation reached 1,280 GWh, which is 3% lower than in November 2025.

In December, thermal power plant production rose by 3% year-on-year, while hydropower generation decreased by 4%. Output from the Krško nuclear power plant remained largely unchanged. Production from wind and solar power plants saw a significant increase of 15%.

Electricity imports in December amounted to 819 GWh, down 14% compared to December 2024, while exports totaled 840 GWh, also 14% lower. Household consumption reached 406 GWh, up 29% from November, whereas commercial consumption declined by 16%, totaling 552 GWh.

Overall, the supply of energy commodities decreased in December, with the exception of lignite and brown coal (+27%), natural gas (+7%), and kerosene (+2%) compared to November. Supplies of other petroleum products fell 40%, hard coal by 24%, coke by 16%, heating oil by 15%, LPG by 8%, diesel by 7%, and petrol by 2% compared to the previous month.

Compared to December 2024, the supply of LPG decreased by 23%, lignite and brown coal by 11%, heating oil by 6%, and coke by 5%, reflecting an overall decline in energy commodity availability on a yearly basis.
