Albania approves 600 MW wind farm in Tropoje as part of €1.1 billion regional renewables push

Albania has taken a major step forward in renewable energy development after the government officially approved a 600 MW wind farm near the northern town of Tropoje. The project will be developed by CWP Europe, marking one of the largest wind investments ever announced in the country.

Authorities have outlined an ambitious schedule, with construction and commissioning expected to be completed within around twelve months, positioning the Tropoje project among the fastest large-scale wind developments in the region.

The wind farm is part of a broader investment program worth approximately €1.1 billion, through which CWP Europe aims to deliver significant clean energy assets across the Western Balkans. In addition to the Albanian wind project, the company plans to build a 400 MW solar power plant with battery energy storage in Montenegro, known as the Montecevo project.

Together, these initiatives highlight the growing momentum behind utility-scale renewables in southeastern Europe, as both governments and private investors accelerate efforts to expand clean generation capacity and enhance regional energy security.
